About the airport
São Jorge Airport is in the municipality of Velas, on São Jorge island in the Azores, a few kilometres from the town of Velas. It is a small regional airfield run by SATA Gestão de Aeródromos, with the runway very close to the coast.
Terminal
It has a single, small passenger terminal. Flights are operated by SATA Air Açores to other islands of the archipelago, with connections on to Lisbon and beyond.
Services
Facilities are basic. It is worth arranging a rental car or accommodation in advance, as the island is long and narrow and distances between villages are considerable.
