Corralejo
The best base for the dunes, Lobos and windsurfing, with plenty of restaurants and accommodation. It is far from the south of the island.

Itinerary · Fuerteventura
A 5-day itinerary around Fuerteventura with dunes, Betancuria, Ajuy, Sotavento, Morro Jable, Puerto del Rosario and a boat trip to Lobos Island.
This 5-day itinerary covers Fuerteventura’s classic areas: dunes and villages in the north, the historic interior with Ajuy, the beaches of Sotavento and Jandía, and the capital. The fifth day is set aside for Lobos Island, by boat from Corralejo. It is ideal for travellers with a rental car who want to combine nature, villages and beach.
From Fuerteventura Airport, taxis leave from the rank in front of the terminal; Puerto del Rosario is a few minutes away, and Corralejo and the south are further. You can also take the Tiadhe buses (lines 3, 10 and 16), which go to Puerto del Rosario, Caleta de Fuste and Morro Jable. For the rest of the island, a rental car is the most convenient option.
Day 1

Corralejo
A sea of white sand beside turquoise beaches, just south of Corralejo. Walk among the dunes in the morning, when it is cooler, and bring water and a hat.
Corralejo
A fishing village with a harbour, a seafront promenade and good fish restaurants. It is the great windsurfing and kitesurfing hub of the north; if you fancy it, book a lesson or watch from the shore.
El Cotillo
A fishing village on the west coast with an 18th-century castle and white-sand coves sheltered by rocks, the lagoons. Stay until sunset and have fresh fish for dinner.
Day 2

Betancuria
The island's former capital, in an inland valley, with the church of Santa María and whitewashed houses. Arrive early to stroll in peace.
Betancuria
A viewpoint beside the road between Betancuria and Pájara, with wide views over a landscape of arid mountains. A short stop, very photogenic.
Pájara
A quiet village with a church doorway carved with very distinctive reliefs. A good place for a coffee or a plate of Majorero cuisine with goat's cheese.

Ajuy
Large caves open to the sea next to a black-sand beach. A path leads there from the village; respect the marked areas, because the swell can be strong.
Day 3
Costa Calma
A long strip of sand with a shallow lagoon. The constant wind has made it famous among windsurfers and kitesurfers, and it is a spectacle even if you only watch.
Costa Calma
A quiet tourist resort with wide beaches. A good place to eat and rest before continuing south.
Jandía
A village at the foot of the Jandía peninsula, with a long seafront promenade and one of the island's longest beaches. Keep the afternoon free for a swim and a walk to the lighthouse.
Day 4
Puerto del Rosario
The island's administrative capital is unassuming, but it deserves a morning: its seafront promenade, the street art in its streets and the Casa Museo Unamuno, dedicated to the writer who was exiled here.
Las Salinas del Carmen
A museum about the salt-making tradition, next to seaside salt pans, near Caleta de Fuste. It is a short and different visit.
Caleta de Fuste
A coastal village with a calm, shallow beach, good for a rest at the end of the day. There is an 18th-century tower beside the bay.
Day 5 · Day trip
From the port of Corralejo, a boat crosses in about 20 minutes to this protected islet. There you can follow the trails to the Martiño lighthouse, climb La Caldera mountain and swim at shallow, turquoise-water beaches. Bring water and comfortable footwear, because there is no shade; book the boat in advance.
Fuerteventura
The best base for the dunes, Lobos and windsurfing, with plenty of restaurants and accommodation. It is far from the south of the island.
Convenient for exploring the centre and the south, with direct access to Sotavento and a quiet atmosphere.
A practical option near the airport and Puerto del Rosario, with a calm beach and services.
Itinerary · Fuerteventura

A day with a calm sea. It is better to go early, and if the wind is strong the boats may change their schedules or not sail, so leave some margin.
Yes, it is the most practical way to reach Betancuria, Ajuy or the beaches of the south. Another option is full-day organised excursions.
The beaches of Jandía, the lagoons of El Cotillo or those of Lobos are calm and beautiful. Sotavento is ideal for soaking up the windsport atmosphere.
