Airport · Amman, Jordan
26 km from central Amman. Live flights, getting to town, car rental and where to stay.
Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is in Zizya, about 30 km south of Amman, and is the main gateway to Jordan and the hub of Royal Jordanian. It handled around 9.2 million passengers in 2023 and is run by Airport International Group under a concession, which plans further growth in the coming years. It is the airport used by most international visitors arriving in the country, whether to see Amman, Petra, the Dead Sea or Wadi Rum, or to connect on to the Middle East.
There is a single terminal, opened in 2013 to replace the three earlier terminals and expanded in a second phase in 2016. Its roof, made up of 127 concrete domes, was inspired by Bedouin tents. As there is only one terminal, there are no transfers between buildings.
Royal Jordanian is the main airline, with a network linking Jordan to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. More than 40 foreign airlines also operate here, with flights to destinations around the world, including many European and regional capitals.
The terminal has a large shopping area, with shops and restaurants, and several VIP lounges. For other services, such as currency exchange, cash machines or assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, check the airport’s official website.
It is quite far from central Amman, so allow for the road journey when working out when to leave for the airport. For international flights, arrive at least three hours early, especially in high season. Bring some cash in Jordanian dinars in case you need it as soon as you land.
Airport Express buses run directly to central Amman, taking about 45 minutes.
Metered taxis wait outside the terminal for the ride into Amman.
