Bokeo International Airport BOR

Bokeo International Airport (BOR) is in Ton Pheung district, inside the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo Province, northern Laos. It was built between 2020 and 2024 and, despite its name, works mainly as a domestic airport. It is about 7 km from the centre of Ton Pheung, almost within sight of the Mekong and the Thai town of Chiang Saen.

Terminals

A single modern terminal building, designed for around 600 passengers and to grow to about 2 million a year. The old Huay Xai airport in the same province no longer receives commercial flights.

Airlines and destinations

Scheduled service is provided by Lao Airlines, with flights to Vientiane. Frequencies are limited and, since the opening, service has seen cancellations, so check your flight with the airline before planning your trip.

Services

It is a new but quiet airport: do not expect a large commercial offering. Bring cash in case you need it for the transfer.

Tips

The airport serves visitors to the Golden Triangle area and the border with Thailand and Myanmar. If you are coming overland from Thailand, bear in mind that Bokeo airport and the Huay Xai border crossing are at different points in the province; arrange transport with your accommodation.
