Inishmore is the largest of the Aran Islands, in Galway Bay, a landscape of stone walls, cliffs and prehistoric ruins. Irish is widely spoken, and the usual ways to get around are on foot, by bicycle or by minibus.
Inishmore airport is about 3 km from central Inishmore.
The island has taxis and minibuses that run guided tours; it is best to book in advance, especially in summer.
Ferries reach Kilronan harbour from Rossaveal, near Galway, and from Doolin, in County Clare. They are the usual alternative to flying.
