Karakol Airport IKG

Karakol Airport (IKG) lies about 2.5 km northeast of Karakol, the capital of the Issyk-Kul region, at the eastern end of the lake. It is a small regional airport that reopened in December 2024 after a reconstruction that brought a new terminal and a renovated runway. It mainly serves travellers heading to Karakol and the surrounding mountains, and is a quick alternative to the long road trip from Bishkek.

Terminals

There is a single terminal building, new and compact, with arrivals and departures under the same roof.

Airlines and destinations

Scheduled service is provided by Asman Airlines, with flights from Bishkek at a low weekly frequency and a link to Osh. With so few frequencies, the timetable may change from one season to the next.

Services

This is a small airport with basic services: do not expect the shops, restaurants or lounges of a large airport.

Tips

Check the operating days of your flight before booking accommodation, as flights do not run every day. Karakol sits at around 1,700 m above sea level, so winter can bring snow and cold; keep warm clothes in your hand luggage. Also bring some cash in som for the transfer into town.
