Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport KDH

Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport, Kandahar’s airport, lies in Daman District, about 17 km southeast of the city in southern Afghanistan. It is one of the country’s main airports. During the international military presence it was a huge air base and became the world’s busiest single-runway airport, peaking at around 5,000 flights a week in 2009.

Terminals

There is one main passenger building, with arrivals and departures in the same place. The civil facilities sit on a former military base, and the site has seen continuous repair and expansion work since 2007.

Airlines and destinations

Ariana Afghan Airlines operates flights to Kabul, Dubai and Jeddah, and Kam Air flies to Kabul. The schedule can change, so check your route with the airline.

Services

Facilities are basic. Do not count on lounges or a large shopping area; bring cash and whatever you need for the wait.

Tips

Many governments advise against travel to Afghanistan, so check your own government’s advice and visa requirements before booking. Arrive very early for checks, and arrange your transport to the city in advance, as it is some distance away.
