Fayzabad Airport FBD

Fayzabad Airport lies about 5.6 km northwest of the city, capital of Badakhshan Province in northeastern Afghanistan, a mountainous region close to Tajikistan. It is a small domestic airport run by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Its runway, about 1,800 m long, was built during the Soviet-Afghan War and resurfaced in asphalt in 2012 with support from USAID and the Asian Development Bank.

Terminals

There is a single, small terminal building, with arrivals and departures under the same roof. There is little more to see than the terminal and the runway.

Airlines and destinations

We could not confirm which airlines currently fly here regularly. Flights, when they run, are domestic with few frequencies, usually to Kabul; confirm your flight directly with the airline.

Services

There are practically no services: do not count on shops, ATMs or lounges. Bring cash, water and food.

Many governments advise against travel to Afghanistan, so check your own government’s advice before booking. Being in mountain country, flights can be delayed or cancelled because of the weather: leave some margin in your plans. Arrange your transport into the city before you arrive.
