Khost International Airport KHT

Khost International Airport serves Khost, capital of the province of the same name, in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. It was a Soviet base in the 1980s and later the US Forward Operating Base Chapman. It was modernised from 2011 and officially opened for civilian flights in July 2021, with a first flight to Dubai.

Terminals

There is a single, small terminal building, with arrivals and departures under the same roof. The asphalt runway is about 2,700 m long, enough for international passenger flights.

Airlines and destinations

Kam Air operates flights to Dubai, Jeddah, Kabul and Kuwait, and Ariana Afghan Airlines flies to Al Ain. It is a small airport with few frequencies, so book with some margin and verify your route.

Services

Facilities are basic. Do not expect lounges or a shopping area; bring cash and whatever you need for the wait.

Tips

Many governments advise against travel to Afghanistan, so check your own government’s advice and visa requirements before booking. With few flights a day, a delay or cancellation can mean a long wait: arrive in good time and arrange your transport into the city in advance.
