Barisal Airport BZL

Barisal Airport (BZL) lies about 12 km north of Barisal city, beside the Dhaka-Barisal highway in the Babuganj area of southern Bangladesh. It is a domestic regional airport run by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. It was built in 1985 and officially opened in 1995. Its single runway, about 1,800 m long, was also used to receive relief supplies after Cyclone Sidr in 2007.

Terminals

There is a single small terminal, with arrivals and departures under the same roof.

Airlines and destinations

The only destination is Dhaka. Biman Bangladesh Airlines runs a few flights a week; other carriers, such as US-Bangla or Novoair, have flown the route in the past, but they come and go with demand, and there are periods when service dwindles to almost nothing.

Services

Facilities are basic: do not count on shops, lounges or a wide choice of food. Bring cash and whatever you need; you will find the rest in the city.

Tips

With so few flights, confirm yours with the airline before travelling and book in good time. As the airport is about 12 km from the city, arrange your transfer in advance or agree the taxi fare before getting in. Arrive at least an hour early.
