8 km from central Sylhet. Live flights, getting to town, car rental and where to stay.
Osmani International Airport serves Sylhet, in northeastern Bangladesh, and is the country’s third-largest airport after Dhaka and Chattogram. It has both civil and military use and a runway of about 3,100 m. It handled about 634,000 passengers in 2022. Much of the traffic comes from the Sylheti diaspora and from workers travelling to the Gulf and the United Kingdom.
There is one terminal, with arrivals and departures in the same building, some shops and places to eat. A new terminal with six boarding bridges, designed for around two million passengers a year, is under construction; works are expected to run until the end of 2027, so you may notice disruption.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla, Novoair and Air Astra link Sylhet with Dhaka, and Biman also flies to Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. Biman additionally operates international routes to the Middle East and the United Kingdom (London and Manchester), and SalamAir flies to Muscat. International routes change, so check which ones are currently running.
There are shops and cafés, but the choice is limited; do not expect large lounges or a wide shopping area.
For international flights arrive about three hours early; for domestic flights one hour is enough. If you arrive from the Gulf with bulky luggage, allow for queues at immigration and customs.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps wait outside the terminal; agree the fare or confirm the meter before setting off.
A shuttle or public bus connects the airport with the centre of Sylhet, timed around flights.
