Ibiza in 7 days: day-by-day itinerary

7-day Ibiza itinerary: Dalt Vila, Ses Salines, Cala Comte, Santa Eulària, Es Vedrà, the rural north and a day in Formentera.

This 7-day itinerary goes deeper: besides the classics, it devotes quieter days to the south-west with Es Vedrà and to the rural north, and keeps the last day for Formentera. Ideally you should have a hire car on those days.

You have several options from Ibiza airport. The AERO3 Ibiza-Aeropuerto Express bus goes straight to Ibiza town. Lines AERO1, AERO2, AERO4 and AERO5 connect with Sant Antoni, Sant Josep, Ibiza bus station, Santa Eulària and Platja d’en Bossa, and some only run in season. Taxis leave from the rank next to the terminal and take about 15 minutes to Ibiza Town.

Tips

  • In July and August, book accommodation, hire car and boat trips in advance: they sell out quickly.
  • If you travel by bus or taxi, keep each day to a single area of the island to avoid long journeys. Check timetables and frequencies beforehand, as they change by season.
  • The best-known coves fill up and parking is scarce, so arrive early or go in the late afternoon.
  • Bring sun protection, water and comfortable shoes: the streets of Dalt Vila are steep and cobbled.
  • For sunsets, arrive an hour early to find a spot, especially at Cala Comte and Sant Antoni.

Day 1

Ibiza Town, Dalt Vila and the harbour

4 stops

  1. Dalt Vila

    Dalt Vila

    Ibiza Town

The walled old town, a World Heritage Site, is the historic heart of the island. Enter through the Portal de ses Taules and climb unhurriedly up the steep streets to the cathedral, where the views of the harbour and the sea make the climb worthwhile. A guided tour helps you make sense of its Renaissance walls.

  2. Dalt Vila

Museu d'Art Contemporani y miradores de Dalt Vila

    Ibiza Town

If you have time, keep exploring the upper part: the contemporary art museum, the bastions and the viewpoints let you see the city from other angles. Wear shoes with good grip, because the cobbles are slippery.

  3. Sa Penya y el puerto

    Ibiza Town

Walk down to the harbour through Sa Penya, the old fishermen's quarter of narrow streets and whitewashed houses. It is a good place for an evening stroll and for dinner of fish or rice dishes at one of the local restaurants.

  4. Paseo de Vara de Rey y plaza del Parque

    Ibiza Town

The tree-lined promenade is the drawing room of the new town, with café terraces and shops. A coffee in the plaza del Parque, a few steps from the walls, makes a good break between morning and afternoon.

Day 2

Ses Salines and sa Caleta

3 stops

  1. Ses Salines

    Ses Salines

    South of the island

A natural park of salt pans and fine-sand beaches, very close to the airport. Combine a walk beside the salt pans with a swim at the ses Salines beaches; the quieter spots are further from the beach bars. Arrive early and bring water and sun protection.

  2. Torre de ses Portes y salinas

    South of the island

The mounds of white salt, the flamingos that appear at certain times of year and the watchtower make a landscape very different from the coves of the west. It is a short and very photogenic stop.

  3. Poblado fenicio de sa Caleta y cala

    South of the island

The remains of a Phoenician settlement, part of the World Heritage-listed site, lie beside a small cove of reddish rocks. It makes a short visit and a peaceful swim before lunch.

Day 3

Cala Comte, Cala Bassa and Sant Antoni

3 stops

  1. Cala Bassa

    West coast

A white-sand beach with a gently shelving seabed, surrounded by pine trees, with natural shade and a relaxed family atmosphere. It is a comfortable place to spend the morning and have lunch right on the beach.

  2. Cala Comte

    West coast

One of the island's best-known coves, with clear water, rocks and several small islets. It is famous for its sunsets, so allow plenty of time to find a spot, and park before it fills up in summer.

  3. Sant Antoni y su puesta de sol

    Sant Antoni

The bay of Sant Antoni de Portmany is the classic setting for an Ibiza sunset. Stroll along the seafront promenade, visit the old fortified church in the old town and find a bar with views to the west to see the day out.

Day 4

Santa Eulària, Puig de Missa and Es Canar

3 stops

  1. Santa Eulària des Riu

    Santa Eulària

The quietest town on the east coast has a pleasant seafront promenade, a marina and a comfortable atmosphere for families. Also stroll along the banks of the Riu de Santa Eulària.

  2. Puig de Missa

    Santa Eulària

The 16th-century fortified church on a hill overlooks the village and the coast. You walk up from the old town and the sea view is worth the effort.

  3. Es Canar

    Santa Eulària

A long beach of golden sand, with facilities and beach bars. It is known for its hippy market; check the days it runs before you go.

Day 5

Es Vedrà, Cala d'Hort and the south-west

4 stops

  1. Sant Josep de sa Talaia

    Sant Josep

A traditional inland village with its white church and quiet streets. It is a short stop between the south-west coast and Ibiza town.

  2. Es Cubells

    South-west coast

A small village with a white church above the cliffs, peaceful and with long views of the sea. It is a place to have a leisurely lunch between the morning and the afternoon.

  3. Torre des Savinar

    South-west coast

An old pirate lookout tower on the cliff, with another excellent viewpoint towards Es Vedrà. It is reached by a short path from the road; bring comfortable shoes and water.

  4. Es Vedrà

    Es Vedrà y Cala d'Hort

    South-west coast

The islet of Es Vedrà, surrounded by legends, looks imposing from Cala d'Hort. Arrive before sunset, go down to the beach and stay to watch the sun go down behind the rock. If you would rather see it from the sea, there are boat trips.

A white fortified church in a small village in the north, with a rural feel and views over the fields. It is a good starting point for the route around the north of the island.

  3. Cala Benirràs

    North

A cove tucked between green cliffs, famous for its sunsets. On the busiest days access by car becomes difficult, so it is best to arrive early.

  4. Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera

    Inland

An inland village with cafés, galleries and a calm atmosphere, popular with residents. It is a good stop for lunch halfway between the north and the centre of the island.

Day 7 · Day trip

Formentera

1 stop

  1. Formentera

The neighbouring island is a short ferry ride from Ibiza harbour, with a crossing of about 30-40 minutes to La Savina. Once there, hire a bike, an electric scooter or a car, or use the bus. Don't miss Ses Illetes, with very clear water and white sand, and Migjorn beach, long and quieter. If you have time left, the Mola lighthouse offers a viewpoint to the east, and the one at Cap de Barbaria, at the southern tip, is a stop with open landscapes. Book the ferry in advance in summer and check the last boat back.
