Airport · Tokyo, Japan
89 km from central Tokyo. Live flights, getting to town, car rental and where to stay.
Ibaraki Airport (IBR) is in Omitama, Ibaraki Prefecture, about 85 km northeast of Tokyo. It shares its runway with Hyakuri Air Base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the closest fighter base to the capital. Civil flights began in March 2010, and today it is a small airport used only by low-cost airlines. About 538,000 passengers used it in 2015.
There is one small, single-storey terminal with no jet bridges: you walk from the building to the aircraft across the apron. It is a compact building, and check-in and security are usually quick.
Skymark Airlines is the main operator, with flights to Fukuoka, Kobe, Naha and Sapporo-Chitose. There are also flights to Cheongju (South Korea) with Aero K. The offer is limited and changes over time, so check your route before booking.
This is a simple airport with basic services. Arrive with food and cash sorted, and do not assume there will be many shops or restaurants.
It is quite far from Tokyo, so allow plenty of time for the transfer into the city and do not cut your arrival at the airport too fine. With few flights a day, a delay or cancellation can leave you without an immediate alternative; if your trip depends on a connection, also look at options from Haneda or Narita.
Taxis wait outside the terminal, or can be booked in advance; agree the fare before getting in.
A shuttle or limousine bus connects the airport with the centre of Tokyo, timed around flights.
A single, small terminal building, with arrivals and departures under the same roof. It is a small regional airport with limited scheduled flights.
