About the airport
Fukuoka Airport sits right in the urban area, about 3 km east of Hakata Station, which makes it one of the most convenient airports in Japan. It is the fourth busiest in the country, with around 26.8 million passengers in 2024. It is the gateway to Kyushu, with many domestic flights and a good network of routes across Asia.
Terminals
There is a domestic terminal and an international terminal, and they are not side by side: a free shuttle bus links them. The international terminal can only be reached by road, not by subway, so if you are flying abroad check which terminal you need before setting out and allow extra time for the transfer.
Airlines and destinations
ANA and JAL dominate domestic flights, and several foreign carriers fly international routes, mostly to other Asian countries.
Tips
The airport has a night curfew, roughly from 22:00 to 07:00, so there are no flights at those hours and it is unwise to cut the last flight of the day too fine. It has been congested for years and terminal and parking expansion work is under way, so arrive with time to spare at busy periods. A second runway opened in March 2025, intended to ease congestion.

Getting to the city
Subway
The city subway's Airport Line runs directly from the domestic terminal to Hakata Station in about 5 minutes.
Bus
A free shuttle links the domestic and international terminals; city buses also serve central Fukuoka.
Taxi
Taxis wait outside both terminals; given the short distance, a taxi into the city is a practical option.
Airport map
A large terminal split into two buildings linked by a free shuttle bus, with the usual shops and restaurants.
A separate terminal a short bus ride from the domestic buildings, due to be merged with them in a future expansion.
