About the airport
Fukue Airport (also known as Gotō Tsubaki Airport, a name in use since 2014 that nods to the islands’ camellias) lies about 3 km southwest of Gotō, in the Gotō Islands of Nagasaki Prefecture. It is the island’s airport and the quickest way to reach the archipelago from Kyushu. It handled around 134,000 passengers in 2015.
Terminals
A single small terminal, with arrivals and departures under one roof. The 2,000 m runway sits at the foot of Mount Onidake, and depending on the wind direction, approaches can be demanding.
Airlines and destinations
ANA Wings and Oriental Air Bridge operate here, with flights to Fukuoka and Nagasaki. There are no international connections or direct flights to Tokyo or Osaka: from outside Kyushu you will need to connect through one of those two airports.
Tips
As an island airport, wind can cause delays or cancellations, so leave a buffer if you have an onward connection. With only a few flights a day, check the timetable in advance and carry some yen in cash, just in case.
