About the airport
Persian Gulf International Airport is in Asaluyeh, in Bushehr Province, inside the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, the big gas and petrochemical hub of southern Iran. It has been operating since 2005 and handled about 853,000 passengers in 2017. Its traffic is not tourist traffic: it is used mainly by workers and technicians in the energy sector and by business travellers to the area. It has a runway of about 4 km, very long for an airport of this size.
Terminals
There is a single terminal handling both domestic and international flights, so there are no transfers between buildings. An expansion with separate terminals has been planned, but we could not confirm its current status.
Airlines and destinations
Flights are mostly domestic and link to large cities such as Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz and Tabriz. Several Iranian airlines operate here; Saha Airlines has a base of operations at the airport, and Iran Air, Mahan Air and Caspian Airlines are among those that have flown to Asaluyeh.
Services
We could not confirm the details of terminal services. This is a business-oriented airport, so do not expect a tourist-style shopping offer; in Asaluyeh you will find hotels and restaurants aimed at the local workforce.
Tips
Schedules are built around the shift rotations of the energy sector, and seats can be in high demand on those days. Book early, confirm your flight before leaving, and agree the taxi fare before getting in.
Getting to the city
Taxi
Taxis wait outside the terminal, or can be booked in advance; agree the fare before getting in, as most are not metered.
