Lar Airport LRR

Larestan International Airport (LRR), also called Ayatollah Ayatollahi, serves the city of Lar, in the south of Fars province, Iran. It opened in 1983 and gained international status after the Gulf War, with Dubai as its first foreign route. In 2017 it handled around 161,000 passengers, which makes it a small regional airport with real activity.

Terminals

There is a single terminal, with arrivals and departures under the same roof, so there is no need to change buildings.

Airlines and destinations

It has both domestic and international flights. Domestically, the main link is with Tehran (Mehrabad), with airlines such as Iran Air and Caspian Airlines. Its distinctive feature is the offer towards the Persian Gulf: according to the sources, flights have operated to Dubai, Sharjah, Doha and Kuwait, with carriers such as flydubai and Air Arabia. International routes change from one season to the next, so check them before booking.

Facilities are those of a regional airport: basic. Hotels, restaurants and shops are in Lar.

Tips

Lar and the Larestan region are far from Iran’s big cities, and flying saves many hours on the road. On international flights, arrive with more time than usual for passport and security checks, and confirm the schedule with the airline before travelling.
