Hamadan Airport HDM

Hamadan Airport (HDM) serves the city of Hamadan in western Iran, at an elevation of about 1,750 metres. It is a small regional airport with mixed civil and military use, run jointly by the state airports company and the Iranian Air Force. Its main job is to give the city an air link with Tehran, saving several hours on the road, and it is used mostly by local travellers, pilgrims in season and visitors coming to see the area’s historic sights.

Terminals

There is a single passenger terminal, with arrivals and departures in the same building, so there are no transfers between terminals.

Airlines and destinations

According to the sources we checked, Iran Air flies to Tehran-Mehrabad and, in season, to Jeddah and Medina for the pilgrimage, and Caspian Airlines flies to Mashhad. The route map changes often and flights are few.

Services

The building is small and facilities are simple: don’t expect what a large airport offers. For hotels, restaurants and shopping, it is best to wait until you reach the city.

Tips

Confirm your flight with the airline before you leave, because with so few frequencies a schedule change affects you a lot. As the airport shares its facilities with military aviation, avoid photographing the site and its surroundings.
