Payam International Airport PYK

Payam International Airport is in Karaj, the capital of Alborz Province, about 40 km from Tehran. It opened in 1997 and has been used mainly for cargo: it is part of the Payam Special Economic Zone and has served as an air mail hub. It has a runway of about 3.7 km, huge for its traffic. It is not a passenger airport in the usual sense: at present it has no regular passenger flights.

Terminals

There is a terminal building, but its passenger use has been very occasional. In September 2018 Taban Air launched a passenger service from Mashhad, which has not become a regular offer.

Airlines and destinations

There are no airlines with regular passenger service that we can list. If you want to fly to Karaj or Tehran, the usual choice is Tehran’s Imam Khomeini or Mehrabad airports, followed by a road transfer.

Services

Do not count on traveller services: no shops, cafes or currency exchange. The activity here is cargo and logistics.

Tips

Before planning anything around this airport, check directly with an airline that a flight is actually scheduled; most likely there is none. If you are heading to Karaj, the road from Tehran is the usual way to get there.
