About the airport
Ardabil Airport (ADU) is north-east of the city of Ardabil, in north-western Iran, at about 1,300 metres above sea level. It is a regional airport run by the Iran Airports Company, with two runways, one about 3,300 metres long. In 2014 it handled about 204,000 passengers. It mainly serves people travelling between Ardabil and Tehran or Mashhad.

Because of the altitude, winter weather can cause cancellations: in 2015 an instrument landing system (ILS) was announced precisely to reduce them.
