About the airport
Qasem Soleimani International Airport (AWZ) serves Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan province, in south-western Iran. Until January 2020 it was called Ahvaz International Airport, and that name still appears on many maps and bookings. It is much larger than the other airports in the area: in 2017 it handled almost 2.94 million passengers. It has a runway of about 3,400 metres and is the hub of Karun Airlines.
