Ramsar Airport RZR

Ramsar Airport is in Ramsar, in Mazandaran Province, on the Caspian Sea coast. It also serves neighbouring Tonekabon. It was built in the Pahlavi era, when Ramsar was a fashionable destination in northern Iran, with a palace of the Shah and plenty of tourists, and it was used to carry staff of the national oil company. It lies about 20 m below sea level and handled about 88,000 passengers in 2017.

Terminals

There is one small terminal. The airport has two runways, one of about 1.5 km and another of about 2.7 km.

Airlines and destinations

Scheduled flights are few: Iran Air and Aseman Airlines have flown to Tehran-Mehrabad and Mashhad, with weekly services. It also receives private and sport flights along the Caspian coast.

Services

Facilities are basic. Do not count on lounges or many shops; the town has hotels and restaurants for everything else.

Tips

This is a coastal destination, so traffic rises in summer and during holidays. With only a few flights a week, check the day’s schedule with the airline and book ahead. Agree the taxi fare before getting in.
