Sardar-e-Jangal Airport RAS

Sardar-e-Jangal, also called Rasht Airport, is about 10 km north of Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province, on the Caspian coast. It is the region’s airport and a good gateway to the Caspian shore and the mountains of Gilan. It handled about 446,000 passengers in 2017. It sits slightly below sea level and shares facilities with Iranian naval aviation.

Terminals

There is a single terminal for domestic and international flights, with shops and places to eat. There are no transfers between buildings.

Airlines and destinations

It is mostly domestic: Tehran-Mehrabad, Shiraz or Qeshm Island, with Iran Air and other Iranian airlines. There are also seasonal international routes, tied to pilgrimages to Medina and Najaf or to Astrakhan in Russia.

Services

There are shops and places to eat in the terminal. We have not checked lounges or currency exchange, so do not count on them.

Tips

Gilan gets plenty of domestic tourism in summer and on holidays, and flights on those dates fill up earlier. Book ahead and check the schedule before leaving, because the international routes are seasonal. For the taxi, agree the fare before getting in.
