Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is in Hansol, north of Ahmedabad, and also serves Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. It is one of India’s major airports: more than 13 million passengers in fiscal 2024-25, making it the country’s seventh busiest. It is a focus city for Air India and an operating base for IndiGo.
There are two terminals. Terminal 1 is domestic and Terminal 2, opened in 2010, is international. A moving walkway of about 500 metres links them, so you can switch from one to the other on foot without going outside. If you are connecting between domestic and international flights, check with your airline beforehand how baggage and checks are handled.
IndiGo and Air India dominate, with a wide domestic network. Internationally there are flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and London, with airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Thai Airways.
An airport of this size has peak times at security and immigration, especially on early-morning or late-night international departures. For an international flight, arrive about three hours ahead; for a domestic one, two usually suffice. Before leaving, check which terminal your flight uses.
Public and airport buses connect with central Ahmedabad.
Prepaid taxis and ride-hailing apps are available outside the terminals.
