About the airport

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is in Dum Dum, about 16 km from central Kolkata, and is the main gateway to eastern and northeastern India. It handled around 21.8 million passengers in fiscal year 2024-25, the vast majority on domestic flights, placing it among India’s six busiest airports.

Terminals

All passenger traffic, domestic and international, goes through Terminal 2, a modern multi-level building of roughly 233,000 m² that opened in 2013. Because there is only one terminal, there are no transfers between buildings; what changes is the area, with international check-in and immigration on a different level from domestic flights.

Airlines and destinations

IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and SpiceJet dominate, with links to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and the rest of the country. International services reach Bangladesh, Bhutan, Southeast Asia and Gulf hubs such as Dubai and Doha.

Services

There are shops, restaurants and cafes in both areas, and lounges on the international side. The airport has two parallel runways and a new air traffic control tower in operation since 2025.

Tips

For international flights, arrive about three hours ahead, as immigration and security can take time. The airport is about 16 km from the centre, so allow for the journey.
