Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is in Devanahalli, about 35 km north of central Bengaluru, in Karnataka. It is one of India’s major airports and the gateway to the country’s technology capital: in fiscal year 2025-26 it handled more than 44 million passengers and over 530,000 tonnes of cargo. It has two parallel 4,000 m runways.
There are two terminals. Terminal 1 focuses on domestic flights. Terminal 2, opened in January 2023, handles domestic and international flights and is famous for its indoor gardens and its heavily planted design. The airport provides a transfer between the two terminals; check your ticket for which one your flight uses, as airlines change terminals over time.
Air India has one of its hubs here, and Air India Express and Akasa Air keep bases. IndiGo and other airlines connect with practically every Indian city. International flights reach Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt), the Middle East (Dubai), Southeast Asia (Singapore) and Australia (Sydney).
According to the official website, there are lounges, baggage storage, currency exchange, free wifi, assistance for passengers with reduced mobility and check-in advice. There are also restaurants and shops in both terminals.
The airport is far from the centre and Bengaluru traffic is very unpredictable, so leave with plenty of margin, especially at peak times. For international flights, arrive about three hours ahead; for domestic ones, about two. Terminal 2 is large: allow time to walk through it.
Airport buses (Vayu Vajra) run to various parts of the city, taking around an hour depending on traffic and destination.
Prepaid taxis and ride-hailing apps are available outside the terminals.
Two terminals handling domestic and international flights, Terminal 2 noted for its garden-themed design.
