About the airport
Cochin International Airport is in Nedumbassery, about 25 km northeast of central Kochi in the state of Kerala. It is Kerala’s largest airport and became famous in 2015 as the world’s first airport powered entirely by solar energy. It handled more than 10 million passengers in fiscal year 2025-26, with heavy traffic to the Gulf, where many Keralites live and work.
Terminals
There are three terminals. Terminal 1 is for domestic flights. Terminal 3, opened in 2017, is the international terminal. Terminal 2 is smaller and is used for executive passengers. Since the terminals are split by flight type, you will normally only use one of them; confirm which on your boarding pass.
Airlines and destinations
Air India, IndiGo and Air India Express operate here, with domestic flights mainly to Bengaluru and Mumbai. International highlights are flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, with airlines such as Emirates and Qatar Airways.
Services
There are restaurants, shops, lounges and prayer rooms. The parking carports carry solar panels, and the solar plant covers around 18 hectares within the airport grounds, so it is a good place to see how a solar airport works.
Tips
For international flights, arrive about three hours ahead. The airport is some 25 km from the centre, so allow for the journey from Kochi before a flight.
