About the airport
Halwara International Airport (Ludhiana Halwara) is about 30 km from the centre of Ludhiana, in Punjab. It operates as a civil enclave inside Halwara Air Force Station, under joint civil and military use. It was inaugurated on 1 February 2026 and is Punjab’s third operational airport, after Amritsar and Chandigarh. Commercial flights began on 15 May 2026.
Terminals
There is a single new terminal. Because the airport is newly opened and quiet, getting through it is quick.
Airlines and destinations
For now Air India operates, with two daily flights to Delhi, one early in the morning and one in the afternoon, on A320-family aircraft. It is a link to the Delhi hub for onward connections. There are no other routes yet, so do not count on any.
Services
This is a very new, small airport with basic services. Check with the airline and the airport what is available before counting on shops or dining.
Tips
Ludhiana is an industrial city with heavy road traffic, so allow for the 30 km journey and congestion. With only two flights a day, a missed flight has no easy same-day alternative, so arrive with margin.
Getting to the city
Taxi
Prepaid taxi counters are often available inside the terminal, or ride-hailing apps can be used outside; agree the fare in advance if not metered.
