Kangra Airport DHM

Kangra Airport (DHM), also known as Gaggal, is about 12 km from Dharamshala and about 8 km from the town of Kangra, in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It serves the Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj area, home to the Tibetan government in exile and a regular destination for trekkers and mountain travellers. It is a small regional airport: between April 2025 and March 2026 it recorded around 164,000 passengers.

Terminals

There is a single terminal with arrivals and departures in the same building, so getting around takes only minutes. The runway, about 1,370 m long, runs over the Manjhi River and is short; a phased extension is planned but depends on land acquisition, so for now only small aircraft operate.

Airlines and destinations

IndiGo flies to Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur and Noida, and Alliance Air provides the link to Shimla. All flights are domestic; there are no international routes. Frequencies are low, so the schedule changes with the season.

Services

Expect the facilities of a small airport. It has the basics for waiting and checking in, but do not count on a large commercial offering or VIP lounges; it is best to sort out shopping and meals in town.

Tips

It is a comfortable alternative to the long mountain road from Delhi or Chandigarh. Because the airport is in hill country, weather can delay or cancel flights, especially in the monsoon and in fog, so leave a buffer if you have a connection afterwards. With few flights a day, book ahead in high season. Bring your e-ticket and a photo ID for the entrance check.
