About the airport
Shirdi International Airport is in Kakadi, about 15 km southwest of Shirdi town, in Ahilyanagar district (Maharashtra). Shirdi is a major pilgrimage site because of the Sai Baba temple, and the airport opened to commercial traffic on 1 October 2017 so that pilgrims would no longer need a trip of more than 125 km to another airport. It is small: between April 2025 and March 2026 it handled about 606,000 passengers, 18% fewer than the year before.
Terminals
A single terminal of about 2,750 m², designed for around 500 passengers a day. It is a simple building with no terminal changes, and the state government has planned a new one. The runway is 2,500 m long and takes narrow-body aircraft.
Airlines and destinations
Mainly IndiGo operates here, with domestic flights to cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad. The offer has changed over time: a night flight from Hyderabad was launched in 2025 and suspended that December.
Tips
Many travellers come for the darshan of Sai Baba, and some combine their flight with the early-morning Kakad Aarti, but with so few frequencies you should always confirm your flight time. Flights are few, so plan your transfer to Shirdi in advance.
