About the airport
Kannur International Airport is in Mattanur, about 28 km east of Kannur city and 24 km east of Thalassery, in northern Kerala. It opened on 9 December 2018, and its first commercial flight was an Air India Express service to Abu Dhabi. It handled about 1.4 million passengers in fiscal year 2025-26.
Terminals
There is a single integrated terminal of about 97,000 m², with six aerobridges and 48 check-in counters. It can handle around 2,000 passengers at peak hours, and the international gates can also be used for domestic flights when needed.
Airlines and destinations
The main carriers are Air India Express and IndiGo. International flights go to Gulf destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai, and domestic ones to cities such as Delhi or Bengaluru. The runway is about 3,050 m long, with an extension planned.
