About the airport

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) serves Nagpur, in the geographic centre of India, and is located in Sonegaon, about 8 km southwest of the city. It is a mid-sized airport: around 2.9 million passengers in fiscal year 2024-25, and one of the 30 busiest in the country. Nagpur is a crossroads between northern and southern India, and the airport serves both business travellers and visitors to the Vidarbha region.

Terminals

There is a single integrated terminal, opened in 2008, with arrivals and departures in the same building and two boarding bridges. As there is just one building, there are no transfers between terminals. The concession holder, GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited, which took over the airport after the agreement signed in October 2024, has expansions planned, so there may be building works.

Airlines and destinations

Four domestic airlines operate here (Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and Star Air), with flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other cities. Internationally there are connections to Sharjah (Air Arabia) and Doha (Qatar Airways). The airport also hosts a large Air India aircraft maintenance centre, able to handle wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777.

Services

It is a mid-sized airport with cafés, shops, information desks and airline counters. The car park holds around 600 vehicles.

Tips

With an average of about 8,000 passengers a day, the airport is easy to manage and queues are usually reasonable, but still arrive about two hours before domestic flights and three before international ones. Summers in Nagpur are extremely hot, and the rainy season can bring occasional delays, so leave some margin if you have a connection.
