About the airport
Veer Savarkar Airport (IXZ) is the air gateway to the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. It lies about 2 km south of Port Blair, the territory’s capital. It is a civil enclave sharing its airfield with the Indian Navy’s INS Utkrosh base, and between April 2025 and March 2026 it handled around 1.8 million passengers.
Terminals
There is a single three-storey terminal (arrivals, departures and a waiting area) able to handle around 1,200 passengers per hour. Arrivals and departures are in the same building, so there is no transfer between terminals.
Airlines and destinations
Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air operate here, with flights to the mainland including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. Because this is an island, flying is the quick alternative to the ships from mainland India, so flights fill up in the tourist season.

Tips
Book early in peak season, as seats to the islands sell out. The 3,290 m runway handles narrow-body jets; even so, monsoon weather in the islands can cause delays, so leave a buffer if you connect to another flight.
