Rajahmundry Airport RJA

Rajahmundry Airport (Rajamahendravaram) is in Madhurapudi, about 16 km north of the city in Andhra Pradesh, on the Godavari river. It is a regional airport dating from the British era that was modernised from 2007: the current terminal opened in 2012 and the runway was extended in 2019 to roughly 3,165 m, long enough for an Airbus A320 or a Boeing 737. About 561,000 passengers used it in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Besides scheduled flights, it is used by ONGC, the state oil company, whose helicopters serve its offshore platforms.

Terminals

There is a single, small terminal with arrivals and departures in the same building. A new terminal is under construction, with 28 check-in counters and four aerobridges, designed for around 3 million passengers a year, roughly ten times the current capacity. Until it opens, expect a simple building with little room to spare at busy times.

Airlines and destinations

Everything is domestic. IndiGo has the widest network, with flights to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Alliance Air and Fly91 add regional links, such as Tirupati.

Tips

Routes and frequencies of the regional carriers change often, so confirm your flight a few days before travelling. If you connect via Hyderabad or Chennai, allow a comfortable gap between flights.
