About the airport
Biju Patnaik International Airport is about 6 km from central Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, and roughly 4 km southwest of the railway station. It is the state’s main airport: more than 4.8 million passengers in fiscal 2024-25, mostly on domestic flights.
Terminals
There are two terminals: Terminal 1, domestic, opened in 2013, and Terminal 2, international. Since February 2024 a link building with an elevated walkway joins them, so you can move between them without going outside. A third terminal is planned to expand capacity.
Airlines and destinations
IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Star Air and IndiaOne Air operate here. There are domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai, and international ones to Bangkok, Dubai and Singapore.
Tips
The runway, about 2,700 metres long, has a Category II ILS, which allows operations in low visibility. For domestic flights arrive about two hours ahead; for international ones, about three. Check which terminal your flight uses before leaving. The airport is very close to the city, so the transfer is short.
