Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport (Vizag) VTZ

Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport (VTZ) is in Bhogapuram, in Vizianagaram district, about 45 kilometres from Visakhapatnam along National Highway 16 and about 23 from Vizianagaram. Inaugurated on 1 August 2026, it began commercial flights on 17 August 2026 and replaces the old Visakhapatnam airport, which shared its facilities with the INS Dega naval base. The VTZ code moved to the new airport. It is the airport for northern Andhra Pradesh and is designed for around 6 million passengers a year, with room to grow far beyond that.

Terminals

There is a single passenger terminal, with check-in and baggage drop counters, and arrivals and departures in the same building. With just one building, there are no transfers between terminals.

Airlines and destinations

IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air operate here, mainly on domestic flights to Delhi and other major Indian cities. There are also international links, with Scoot and other carriers, to destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. Flights moved over from the old airport and the network is still changing, so check your route with the airline.

Tips

The key point: this airport is much farther from the city than the old one, so allow for a long road journey (about 45 km) and leave with a margin, especially at peak times. Many older guides, maps and apps still place the Visakhapatnam airport inside the city: make sure your taxi or booking points to Bhogapuram. The naval airport INS Dega no longer has regular commercial flights.
