Srinagar International Airport is in Budgam, about 12 km south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, and is the main air gateway to the Kashmir valley. It is an Indian Air Force airfield with a civil enclave run by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and has a single 3,685 m runway. It handled around 4.4 million passengers in the 2024-25 fiscal year, a high figure for a mountain airport.
One integrated terminal, opened in February 2009, of about 19,700 m² and able to hold around 950 passengers at a time. It was designed with a Himalayan theme and a sloping roof so snow clears easily. There are nine aircraft stands, five of them with jet bridges. Arrivals and departures share the building.
It is mainly a domestic airport. Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India Express and Akasa Air operate here, with flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jammu, Leh and many other Indian cities. International flights are limited to seasonal Hajj charters.
As a military site, security is strict: bring photo ID, expect thorough checks and arrive well ahead of time. In winter, especially from November to February, fog and snow cause delays, diversions and cancellations, so leave margin if you have connections or early flights afterwards.
Prepaid taxi counters are often available inside the terminal, or ride-hailing apps can be used outside; agree the fare in advance if not metered.
A shuttle or public bus connects the airport with the centre of Srinagar, timed around flights.
A single passenger terminal, with arrivals and departures in the same building, with shops and places to eat. It handles mainly domestic flights, with some international routes.
