About the airport
Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport serves Leh, the capital of Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas. At 3,256 m above sea level, it is the highest commercial airport in India. It is the air gateway to Ladakh, especially in summer, when the mountain roads are easier to travel. A little over 1.07 million passengers used it in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Tips
Because of the afternoon mountain winds, flights operate in the morning: if your connection arrives late or is cancelled, expect to lose the day. Arriving from sea level, your body has not acclimatised: rest for the first 24-48 hours, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and heavy meals, and talk to your doctor before travelling if you have heart or breathing problems. Book ahead in high season.
