About the airport
Vijayawada Airport is in Gannavaram, about 20 km from the city, in Andhra Pradesh. It is run by the Airports Authority of India and serves Vijayawada and the state capital region. Between April 2025 and March 2026 it handled about 1.4 million passengers. Its runway is about 3,360 metres long, suitable for wide-body aircraft.
Terminals
There is a single interim terminal, opened in January 2017, able to handle about 500 passengers at peak hour. A new integrated terminal for 3.5 million passengers a year is under construction, due by late 2026, so facilities may change.
Airlines and destinations
IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express operate here. The main routes are domestic (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad), and there is also an international flight to Singapore.
