Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport RDP

Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport is in Andal, West Bengal, about 17 km from the centre of Durgapur and about 34 km from Asansol, an industrial and mining region. It is a privately operated airport, run by Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited with a stake held by Changi Airports International. It opened in 2015 (Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first passenger on 10 May and commercial flights began on 18 May) and handled about 545,000 passengers between April 2025 and March 2026, up 6.2% on the previous year.

Terminals

There is a single terminal of about 5,750 m², designed for one million passengers a year and expandable to 2.5 million. It is small and easy to get around, with no transfers.

Airlines and destinations

All direct flights are operated by IndiGo, with connections to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The 2,800-metre runway has a Category I ILS and takes narrow-body aircraft such as the A320 or the Boeing 737. The airport serves Durgapur, Asansol and their industrial surroundings, and saves a trip by road all the way to Kolkata.

This is a small terminal; do not expect a wide choice of shops and restaurants. Bring what you need and leave meals for the city.

Tips

With a single airline, a cancellation leaves few alternatives on the same day: confirm your flight in advance, and bear in mind that the airport is a fair distance from both Asansol and Durgapur, so book your transfer with time to spare.
