About the airport
Gaya Airport (GAY), officially Gaya International Airport, is about 12 km southwest of the city of Gaya, in the state of Bihar, and very close to Bodh Gaya, the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment. That is why its main role is to serve Buddhist pilgrims and tourists, especially from Southeast Asia, Bhutan and Myanmar. Between April 2025 and March 2026 it handled around 357,000 passengers.
Terminals
There is one terminal, of about 7,500 m², with room for about 250 departing and 250 arriving passengers. Arrivals and departures share the same building, so getting through is simple. The 2,286 m runway handles mid-size aircraft such as the Airbus A320.

Within India, Air India and IndiGo fly here, with connections to Delhi and Kolkata. What sets it apart are the seasonal international flights tied to the Buddhist pilgrimage season, with airlines such as Thai Airways (to Bangkok), Drukair (to Paro, Bhutan) and Myanmar Airways International (to Yangon). It is also the only airport in Bihar with direct Hajj flights to Saudi Arabia.
