About the airport
Darbhanga Airport is on the outskirts of Darbhanga city in Bihar, next to the NH-27 and NH-527B highways. It is an Indian Air Force base that also operates as a civil airport, run by the Airports Authority of India. Commercial flights began on 8 November 2020, and it handled about 775,000 passengers in fiscal year 2025-26, nearly half as many again as the year before.
Terminals
There is a small interim terminal, with six check-in counters and capacity for about 200 passengers at peak hours. A larger terminal is under construction, expected in 2026, so there may be building work.
Airlines and destinations
Akasa Air, IndiGo and SpiceJet operate here, with domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. There are no international flights. The roughly 2,743 m runway handles aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
Tips
As this is a military base, access checks can be strict: always carry photo ID. With so few flights a day, check the schedule before travelling and do not count on many services in the interim terminal.
Getting to the city
Taxi
Prepaid taxi counters are often available inside the terminal, or ride-hailing apps can be used outside; agree the fare in advance if not metered.
