Gorakhpur Airport GOP

Gorakhpur Airport (VEGK) is about 8 km from the city centre, in eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is a civil enclave within an Indian Air Force base, with the Airports Authority of India handling the commercial side. It is the third busiest airport in the state after Lucknow and Varanasi, with just over 1.1 million passengers in the April 2025 to March 2026 financial year.

Terminals

There is one terminal, opened in 2017, with arrivals and departures in the same building. An expansion project to increase its capacity has been under way since 2021.

Airlines and destinations

IndiGo has the most routes: Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Akasa Air, Alliance Air and SpiceJet also fly here. All flights are domestic and the offer changes by season, so check current timetables.

Services

This is a small terminal with basic services. For food, money exchange or shopping, count on the city, and carry some cash just in case.

Tips

The airport serves a wide area of eastern Uttar Pradesh and is the usual gateway for travellers heading to Gorakhpur or nearby areas, including the Nepal border. As it shares facilities with a military base, security checks can be strict, so allow extra time: around two hours before busy flights is a good idea. Always carry valid photo ID.
