Kanpur Airport KNU

Kanpur Airport, also known as Chakeri, is about 17 km from the city centre in Uttar Pradesh. It is both an Indian Air Force station, with IAF maintenance depots and an HAL aircraft factory, and a civil airport. The current civil enclave, with a new terminal, was inaugurated in May 2023 and commercial flights began in June that year. Kanpur is a large industrial city, known for leather and textiles, and the airport handled about 364,000 passengers in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Terminals

There is a single civil terminal of about 6,200 m², with a waiting hall for around 400 people and eight check-in desks. Departures and arrivals share one building and there are no internal transfers.

Airlines and destinations

According to the latest data, IndiGo is the airline operating here, linking Kanpur with Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. These are domestic flights. Lucknow, which has a much larger airport, is the alternative if you want more routes.

Tips

As this is a military base, access checks can be stricter, so keep an ID document handy. Domestic flights in India call for arriving about two hours early, and it is worth checking the schedule before you set out because the choice is limited.
