About the airport

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (LKO) serves Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and is located in the Amausi area, about 14 km from the city centre. It is one of the busiest airports in northern India, with more than 6 million passengers in fiscal year 2024-25, and IndiGo treats it as one of its focus cities. It is operated by Adani Airports.

Terminals

The one you will most likely use is Terminal 3, the integrated building opened in March 2024, with around 111,000 m² and seven boarding bridges. Both domestic and international flights operate from it. The airport still has older buildings from earlier stages (the first terminal dates from 1986), but for the usual airlines you should head to T3; if in doubt, check the terminal on your ticket before leaving.

Airlines and destinations

The domestic market is dominated by IndiGo, along with Air India Express, Akasa Air and other Indian carriers, with flights to the country’s main cities. International routes mostly go to the Gulf and Southeast Asia, with airlines such as Saudia, Oman Air, flynas, SalamAir, flydubai and Thai AirAsia, and destinations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Bangkok.

Services

T3 is a new building, with shops and food outlets in the departure area. Exact services can change as the airport expands, so do not count on specific lounges or left-luggage facilities without checking the airport website first.

Tips

For domestic flights, plan to be at the airport about two hours before departure, and around three for international ones. Security and hand-luggage checks are strict, as elsewhere in India. In winter, fog is common in northern India and can cause delays or diversions, so leave some margin if you have a connection.
