About the airport
Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) Airport is about 3.7 km west of the centre of Kerala’s capital, very close to the sea and Shankumugham beach. It is operated by Adani Group under a 50-year concession from 2020 and is Kerala’s second-busiest airport: it passed 4.8 million passengers in fiscal year 2024-25. It also houses the Indian Air Force’s Southern Air Command and an Air India maintenance facility.
Terminals
There are two separate terminals. Terminal 1 (domestic) opened in 1992 and sits next to the beach; Terminal 2 (international) opened in 2011, in the Chackai area.
Airlines and destinations
Air India Express has an operating base here, alongside Air India and IndiGo. There are flights to India’s major cities and to Gulf destinations, with Emirates and Qatar Airways among the international airlines, plus other regional carriers.

Check on your ticket which terminal you depart from: they are not adjacent. As the airport is so close to the centre, the ride into the city is short, while Kovalam, the area’s best-known beach, is about 16 km away.
