About the airport
Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) Airport is about 5 km south of the city centre, alongside National Highway 336, in Tamil Nadu. It is run by the Airports Authority of India and is the state’s second-busiest airport for international passengers after Chennai, and third for total traffic after Chennai and Coimbatore. Its strength is flights to South-East Asia, Sri Lanka and the Middle East, serving the large Tamil diaspora.
Terminals
A new integrated terminal of about 75,000 m², able to handle 4.5 million passengers a year, opened in 2024, replacing the earlier 2009 building. Its entrance reproduces the south gopuram of the Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam.
Airlines and destinations
Air India Express is the main airline, with IndiGo, AirAsia and Scoot among the others. There are flights to about five Indian cities and about nine international destinations in the Middle East, South-East Asia and Sri Lanka.

Being new, the terminal offers the comforts of a modern airport: cafés, shops and airline desks. The airport also has a cargo terminal.

If you are visiting Srirangam or Thanjavur, the airport is the most convenient entry to this part of southern Tamil Nadu.
