Tuticorin Airport TCR

Tuticorin (Thoothukudi) Airport is in Vagaikulam, about 15.6 km west of the city centre, in Thoothukkudi district, Tamil Nadu. Opened in 1992, it had years of patchy service until Air Deccan began flying in 2006. Today it is a small but growing regional airport: around 290,000 passengers between April 2025 and March 2026, 26% more than the year before. It received ISO 9001:2015 certification in 2018.

Terminals

A new terminal, inaugurated on 26 July 2025, replaces the old building. It covers about 17,341 m², handles around 1,400 passengers an hour, and has three aerobridges, 21 check-in counters and seven baggage scanners. Arrivals and departures share the building. In 2025 the runway was extended to about 3,115 m, allowing larger aircraft.

Airlines and destinations

Today the airport is served by IndiGo, with domestic flights to Bengaluru and Chennai. Night operations began in 2020 and regular evening flights started in March 2026.

Tips

With so few routes, confirm your flight time before travelling and book ahead in busy periods. Allow for the 15.6 km between the airport and the city when planning your transfer.
