Dimapur Airport DMU

Dimapur Airport (DMU) is the only commercial airport in the state of Nagaland. It lies between the towns of Dimapur and Chümoukedima, beside National Highway 29, and serves both as well as Kohima, the state capital, which is reached by a mountain road. It is the region’s main air link with the rest of India: between April 2025 and March 2026 it handled around 387,000 passengers. A second airport at Kohima is planned but still in development.

Terminals

There is one terminal, in a building dating back to the Second World War, able to handle about 500 departing and 300 arriving passengers. Arrivals and departures share the same building. The runway, about 2,290 m long, is enough for the single-aisle aircraft used by domestic airlines.

Airlines and destinations

All flights are domestic. IndiGo flies to Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata; Air India Express to Guwahati; and Alliance Air to Imphal and Shillong. Guwahati is the key connection for onward travel across the Northeast and the rest of the country.

Services

The offer is basic. Do not expect VIP lounges or a wide choice of shops and restaurants; shop and eat in town before going to the airport.

Tips

Dimapur is also Nagaland’s railway gateway, so many travellers combine flights with train or road. Since the road to Kohima is long, allow for the transfer time when planning your flight. With few flights a day, book ahead and bring your e-ticket and a photo ID for the entrance check.
